How To Recover Deleted Hotmail Emails From Hotmail That Were Once Permanently Lost

If you think that you’ve just hit the delete button in your Hotmail inbox, for the emails that you didn’t want to get rid of. Then, there is one simple trick that you can use to easily restore permanently deleted emails from your Hotmail account. It’s not actually a trick that I’m about to teach you. But it is a function within your account itself introduced by Microsoft, to help users recover deleted Hotmail emails easily.

So, what is it exactly that you’ve got to do to recover those permanently deleted emails back into your Inbox? Well, the procedure to recovery is quite simple and can be achieved within seconds after you log into your Hotmail account. Here are the simple steps that you need to cover in-order to restore deleted email messages in

  • Go to OR
  • Next, type your email address and password to sign in.
  • Now, simply click on the “Deleted” button from the default Hotmail folder options. [Refer To Image]


  • After you do that you will be sent to the “Deleted Folder Section” within your Hotmail inbox. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Here you will now see a button named “Recover Deleted Messages“. Click on the link.

recover_deleted_messages will now recover your messages. But, the unfortunate fact is that Microsoft will not take the guarantee of recovering all of your messages. However, it will try restoring as many messages as possible and then put it back into your Deleted folder. If, you do not see the deleted messages that you wanted to recover, it means that they are permanently lost.

Note- However, if you have a child account, this feature won’t work in it. It is a security feature implemented by Microsoft, for parents to be sure that the kids won’t be able restore deleted emails by their own.

Use Hotmail Spam Filter To Stop Spam, Phising & Junk

Do you use Microsoft Hotmail to receive and send emails? If, yes then you must have been frequently dealing with spam mails. These kind of spam and junk emails can be a huge problem if you’re especially using Hotmail for business. Although Hotmail is considered to be one of the best, safe and free email client today. Junk mail in your inbox can be a huge source of distraction and the major source for loosing legitimate clients.

Set filters by selecting either standard or exclusive. Selecting exclusive will send every mail that’s not from your contact list to junk mail folder. You can moreover ask the sender to remove you from their mailing lists and automatically block spam when you click on Junk or Unsubscribe. Hotmail phishing threat most definitely comes from unknown senders. You can easily block unknown email senders on Hotmail by choosing to show or block attachments under the Block Content from Unknown Senders heading. Click “Save” once you’re finished setting filters.

Test Spam Filter | See If It’s Working

After you’ve set your email priorities using “Filters and Reporting” option, there’s one thing you need to do. Test it. Although, the Hotmail Spam filter works hard to prevent spam from your inbox. It is not 100% accurate. This is why you need to test your filters credibility, manually.

Step 1

Go to your Inbox and look for junk mail to see whether or not your spam filter is performing as expected. If you happen to find spam, you can then manually move them to your junk folder.

Step 2

Send yourself an email containing words/phrases/images that you’ve set your spam filter to detect as spam, such as “Free” or “You’re our winner”. Then check your email to see if the sent mail is categorized under Junk. If yes, then it’s working just fine.

Step 3

Refer to some free email testing tools that you can find online. Follow the instructions to test your spam filter and determine the security status of your email address.

Manage Hotmail Junk Mail Folder | Instructions With Pictures

Hotmail Junk folder is where your Hotmail account automatically classifies any suspected, unwanted or spam mail sent to your inbox. The “Junk” category within your inbox helps protect you from all the spam/unwanted emails by diverting it into a different folder. To View Hotmail Junk Mail Folder

  • Sign into your Hotmail account.

  • Click on “Junk” to access the “Junk mail folder”
  • Currently there are 11 junk mails in my  junk folder
  • Hotmail will leave this section untouched for 10 days
  • After 10 days all the mails from Junk folder will be deleted automatically.

Not All Mails Are Junk?

In some particular cases, Hotmail sometimes filters non-spam emails as spam by mistake and automatically lists them under your junk mail folder. You can easily prevent that from happening in the future and leave those emails in your inbox. Here is what you should do-

  • Within junk mail folder
  • Select a particular email that’s not junk/spamhotmail_not_junk
  • Click “Not Junk” as shown above in the picture.

Note- You will now receive all the mails from that particular email address directly in your inbox folder

Manually Move Mails To Junk Folder

In some cases you will see some junk or spam messages within your “Inbox Folder“. In that case you could manually mark emails as Junk or spam. Here is what you should do-

  • Select the mail you want to move to junk from within your Inbox.manually_move_Hotmail_mail_to_junk
  • I’ve selected two particular messages or email accounts
  • Then, I simply clicked on “Junk”

Once you’ve marked an email as junk mail, Hotmail will remember it, and always automatically move this sender’s emails to the Junk folder, without any further manual actions.
